My Sri Lankan ordeal had a purpose…

Walking amidst the duty free shops at Colombo’s Bandaranaike Airport, I spotted the peppered roasted cashews in a duty-free shop. Hubby had given me three Sri Lankan currency notes of 2000 Sri Lankan Rupees each. “You might want to spend it on food/coffee at the airport,” he said. The cashews looked enticing. Perhaps I will spend that money on them on my way back.

But, I was flustered by the airline’s decline of my request to grant me accommodation at the airport. Surely, they could have accommodated. I had even offered to pay for the difference in the cost of the hotel that was offered for transit passengers outside of the airport.

The wait at the lounge for the shuttle to gather all passengers and take them to the hotel was too long. It was nearly midnight. It will probably be 1 AM before we reach the hotel and we would have to checkout at 4.45 AM! It seemed ridiculous! Perhaps I should have spent the time at one of the lounges at the airport. Or, I should have simply paid for the hotel in full and enjoyed a good night’s sleep!

Seething with frustration, I got off the shuttle in the dark, took the keys and sandwich tray at the reception at 1 AM and headed to the lift to my room on the 2nd floor.
